Dear Me, I Was... Is Now Heading to the Original Switch

Previously a Switch 2 exclusive, textless visual novel Dear Me, I Was... is now heading to the original Nintendo Switch.

Released last month on the newer console, Dear Me, I Was... by Arc System Works is a short visual novel from director Maho Taguchi. Using watercolour style visuals led by art director Taisuke Kanasaki, perhaps best known for working on Hotel Dusk and Another Code, this sees you exploring the humble, ordinary life of a woman through joy, sorrow, and growth. It uses rotoscoping by filming live action footage first, then tracing over it with hand-drawn artwork.

For a game that just falls under being categorised as a “game” with minimal interactivity - and I don't mean that negatively - being a Switch 2 exclusive at launch was rather surprising since it's hardly performance demanding. Arc System Works hasn't yet confirmed a release window for the Switch version, only stating a release schedule will be revealed “soon.”

It struck a chord with me in my recent review, delivering a surprisingly strong adventure that I described as “powerful and poignant” without ever saying a word.

This minimalist storytelling remains impactful without needing text or talk, strongly conveying its tone and narrative through a strong visual identity. You won't need more than an hour to complete it, but much like the similarly emotional yet brief and Roger, Dear Me, I Was... will be on my mind for a long time to come.

Dear Me, I Was... is out now on Switch 2, while the Switch release date is unconfirmed.
