Rewinder: What We're Playing This Week (May 31, 2025)

Our second edition of 'What We're Playing' is live, where we each discuss what we've playing more casually.

This week's been a quieter one for the team beyond our to a T review and brief Instants impressions, and we're all preparing for next week's Switch 2 launch. So, let's jump right in.

Henry

A Formula 1 Ferrari car overtaking an Aston Martin at a corner
F1 Manager 24

Not a lot I can publicly discuss yet, I've been playing a few games currently under embargo, and I've not made much progress on Clair Obscur while recovering from a tooth problem. However, I've dipped back into familiar comforts with F1 Manager 24 when I can. Steam Deck compatibility is a dangerous thing, and I'm trying to make Yuki Tsunoda the driver's champion.

I'm playing the game of life this week, doing a soul level 1 challenge run on a bad seed.

Lex

Mario floating through space with a floating yellow star-shaped creature next to him
Super Mario Galaxy

I haven't been playing much this week that I can talk about for a while, but I have continued to mess around with older stuff. That includes the two Super Mario Galaxy games, after seeing a skeet by Jacob Geller about Gusty Gardens. We all know those games are incredible, but coming back to them 15 years later and knowing how under-powered a console the Wii was at the time, they suddenly become even more magical.

I have found myself just wandering around planets, marvelling at how well the camera and the controls tend to manage the orb-shaped platforms. I am just unable to stop thinking about what a god-damn pain in the ass it all must have been to program. I don't know exactly what I'm getting at here, but it's kind of nice to experience the same amount of awe at this game all these years later, even if now it's a much more informed respect than child-like wonder.

Scott

Workin' on a night reign.

(Yes, that's all Scott wanted to add - Henry)
