The Victor Initiative Is a New Survival Horror Game Set in Wales

The Victor Initiative is a first-person sci-fi horror game where you explore an abandoned research facility in North Wales.

Released on Steam this week in early access, The Victor Initiative by Spacepiano Games sees you explore a facility abandoned during the 60s, with each floor promising different challenges. Tasked by a shady government agency, you need to close a rift hidden inside with minimal information, no outside help, and no health bars.

Though the game features “a high volume” of jump scares, these can be muted in the settings. This also includes live action cutscenes, collectables and documents for uncovering the wider lore. Audio logs can also be found with guest appearances from Remedy's Sam Lake, Inel Tomlinson, Samantha Béart, Dave Jones and the former Head of Games at BAFTA, Luke Hebblethwaite.

A Steam FAQ confirms that The Victor Initiative in its present state features the first four chapters. The full release aims to complete this story with an additional three chapters and while that's subject to change, the game is “planned to be in early access for 4-8 months.” Price will gradually be raised during this period too as it receives further updates.

This isn't the first time we've seen Wales used as the setting for a horror game. 2020's Maid of Sker previously delivered a late 19th century survival horror title based on Welsh folklore where you investigate a remote hotel. Developer Wales Interactive recently confirmed that's also getting a VR adaptation that's out next month.

The Victor Initiative is out now on Steam Early Access, with a Chapter 1 demo also available.
