The Rewinder 2 Has Given Us An Early Branding Crisis
Look, I swear we did our research beforehand.

Three days before we officially launched our new website, we got word that The Rewinder 2 is heading to Steam soon.
Developed by MistyMountainStudio, The Rewinder 2 is a puzzle adventure game inspired by eastern mythology with a pixel ink-wash art style. Present websites excluded, you play as the last known rewinder called Qiyun where you save people from their nightmares across various realms. Qiyun wields the powers of a god named Sizhi as you explore various villages, dungeons and ruins.
As a rewinder, Qiyun finds themselves called back to the mortal world following the surge of vengeful energy, right as the Ghost Market springs to life. Accordingly, it's up to us to purify these souls while investigating a greater threat, the shadow of the White Lotus Sect.
With the original game, The Rewinder first appeared back in 2020 and while there aren't many critic reviews available, it currently holds an "overwhelmingly positive" reception on Steam. Starring a different protagonist, Yun, this featured a similar premise that instead uses 2D gameplay as you meet mythological figures.
I can't say I've played the original game but as the site's founder, you better believe I became aware of it as when I started researching names. Similarly, there's also a BBC Radio 4 show hosted by Greg James with the name too. Our goals are distinct that I believed this wouldn't be a problem, which is why I stuck with it. Our official editorial position is that we must support our fellow Rewinders, and frankly, the timing is also just really funny.
Still, if a puzzle adventure based on Chinese mythology is more your speed than a news outlet, The Rewinder 2 reaches Steam on May 26.
