Metal Gear Solid is calling.

Rewinder: What We're Playing This Week (September 6, 2025)

Like clockwork, we're back again with another edition of What We're Playing.

Usually, I'd discuss how much of a busy week or quiet week it's been, maybe reflect on some stories we've covered across the week and some additional things beyond that. But frankly, we're all exhausted still after Gamescom, and that goes double for me after the Venice Film Festival too. So, let's just jump straight into it.

Here's what the team's been up to.

Henry

Another largely quiet week as I've been busy finishing write-ups from Venice Immersive. Some are already live for Alien Perspective, Face Jumping, Out of Nowhere, and Black Cats & Chequered Flags, but upon getting home I bought Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World. That name is too long, and I'm enjoying this expansion in co-op with my fiancée.

I finally got a win in the Kingmaker mode of He Is Coming. This darn roguelike has had me in its clutches since before it launched. It's so minimalist and simple, but the build variety is absurd. Kingmaker has you facing off against other players' builds, and I couldn't quite get the last boss each time. I'm overjoyed that I finally did it.

Also, I've been playing BlazBlue: Entropy Effect, which is absolutely banging, and I'll be writing up something on it this week.

What nobody tells you is this game's combat is basically a hybrid of Virtua Fight and Yakuza.

This week, I have mainly been trying to finish up Cronos: The New Dawn before travelling to Japan. It's a game I genuinely quite like even if it seems like the creative leads have no idea what the story they told is even about.

When I haven't been doing that, I have been prepping for a very long flight and, as a result, I finally got the English fan translation of Kurohyō: Ryū ga Gotoku Shinshō running on my Retroid, and lemme tell you... THAT GAME IS WEIRD. Neat, but very weird.

I really do need to get back to playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but I'm also getting an itch to play Metal Gear Solid 4, so who really knows.
