Come on F-Zero.

Nintendo’s Making More Movies, So Place Your Bets on What’s Next

Nintendo's preparing to release more movies with a “consistent release cadence,” so it's only a matter of time before we get F-Zero, right?

I know, I know, let me cope, but it's been clear for a while that Nintendo's looking to push ahead with film adaptations for a good while. 2023 delivered animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie, next year's bringing a sequel with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and let's not forget that live-action movie for The Legend of Zelda coming in 2027. So the question is, what comes next?

During the company's latest financial results (page 34), Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated: “We are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.” Which isn't much to go on in itself, though calling this a framework with a “consistent release cadence” does suggest this might become an annual thing looking at when Galaxy and Zelda drop.

What else this could bring is almost anyone's guess, though it's worth remembering Nintendo acquired Dynamo Pictures (now Nintendo Pictures) back in 2022. Last month saw it release the Close To You short film, which initially confused people before later revealing a second version that includes Pikmin.

Nintendo's official upload includes both versions of Close to You

Given how much Shigeru Miyamoto loves that series, a longer Pikmin film down the line doesn't seem completely out of the question.
