We're Starting A Mario Paint Art Club, Who Wants In?

Mario Paint is now available on Nintendo Switch Online, so it's only right that we start an art club.

Ever since Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 would support mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2, I've expected Mario Paint would eventually show up. The original release from 1992 is arguably the most prominent game that supports the Super NES Mouse, and that's now taking full advantage of this control scheme once more.

While the original Joy-Con doesn't include the same built-in functionality, you can still play this on the Switch 1 if you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo states you can connect a compatible USB mouse to the Switch dock, so we're thankfully not about to start seeing SNES games exclusive to Switch 2.

I've been floating in our backers Discord server that we should start an art club following this week's launch, which could be a creative way to jump into this classic. Mario Paint isn't just a tool for creating artworks, either, as the game also includes a point-and-click minigame and colouring book. Also a music composer, which, need I say more?

In related news, today's update to the SNES app introduces another pleasing change (credit: Nintendo Life) on both Switch 1 and Switch 2. This now supports remappable buttons for your various controllers, much like how GameCube and N64 games. It's a welcome move for accessibility, so here's hoping this change arrives across all the other retro NSO libraries, too.
