Dredge Studio Rules Out Sequel as Work Begins on Next Game

Black Salt Games has started pre-production on a dark open world RPG, confirming it's not a Dredge sequel.

Revealing the news on LinkedIn, the New Zealand based independent studio announced that it's now officially wrapped up work on Dredge following two paid expansions and February's mobile launch on iOS and Android. Stating its next game will not be Dredge 2, the unnamed title is “an open world RPG in a brand new, dark setting.” No further details were confirmed.

Alongside this announcement, Black Salt Games also revealed the formation of its second studio, Disc 2 Games, which promises to have its own unique identity. “Think bright, colorful and 90s retro,” states BSG, and the new studio will share further details “in the upcoming months” on this separate game.

Though I'm disappointed that we're not getting a full Dredge sequel, Black Salt Games left its mark with its Lovecraftian debut. A single-player horror-adjacent fishing game, I previewed it nearly three years ago at Gamescom and once it launched, it quickly became one of my favourite games of 2023. Whatever comes next, the studio's got my full attention.
