Mario Kart World Could Add One Mode To Be Truly Great

Mario Kart World is one of the very few truly new games on Nintendo Switch 2 currently, and it's incredibly good fun. That's not a huge shock, this is Nintendo after all, but it's still nice to see. World presents an interesting new take on things, with it having a free roam mode with open-world challenges to explore, plus loads of characters and outfits to unlock. That's before getting into a new Grand Prix system, along with a brand-new game mode called Knockout Tour.

Both Grand Prix and Knockout Tour have you racing not only on different courses, but also between them. It adds a strong sense of fluidity to the whole affair, at least in my opinion, and it's a good way to help shake up the classic approach of just having different courses. This also makes the game world feel that much more connected, and makes good use of the open world... but it could be better.

I believe there's a way to add a semi-roguelike mode to Mario Kart World. We already have a load of connections between different courses, and the Grand Prix and Knockout Tour modes both show different routes that connect different options. None of the courses would have to move, but you could have races that went from one course to another course nearby with a semi-randomized route.

Just think of how incredible that would be as a multiplayer mode? You could throw in the knockout modifier to make players further back drop out and keep a bit of pressure on. Maybe even throw in some Kamek enemies randomly appearing and hitting people, or chaos items happening here and there. There's so much potential, and most of the work is already there in the game.

I appreciate it's a little on-the-nose for me, the roguelike person, to talk about this, but gosh darn it, it's a great idea and I refuse to be silenced. Nobody is trying to silence me. Well, my son tells me shh sometimes, but kids, right? This has gotten away from me. Mario Kart World roguelike mode now please, Nintendo!
