Final Fantasy XV On PC Has Several Random Bugs That Stop It Working, So That's Fun

I'm writing this while I wait for Final Fantasy XV to reinstall on my PC. I've tried reloading three different saves, verified the files, messed around with settings, tried hiding behind the door while it loads, and all sorts of other things, and yet I can't progress any further. To be fair, the signs were there from the beginning. The game sometimes just doesn't boot up, which means you have to relaunch it until it does. It's a minor annoyance. That's not the case this time, though.

I'm 20 hours into my save, which isn't a lot for many people who play games, but for someone with two kids and a freelance work life, my gaming time is limited. It's a lot shorter than I recall, which means my characters are all level 50 or so, I've got a bunch of the side stuff done, and I'm at the end of chapter 8. If you go ahead and search for chapter 9 in the Steam forums, you'll be greeted with posts from other people just like me. Yay! We love to suffer universally.

Things are really kicking in now. This is just before the story takes a pretty dark turn, and the whole boy band thing gets messed around with. Well, it was on launch. I don't know if that's still going to be quite as neck-breaking this time, but I guess I'll find out if it ever boots up. It really sucks that this is just a thing that PC gamers have to deal with sometimes. I'm sure there's some niche fix that does work, but most posts are basically a giant shrug telling you to hope for the best.

Anyway, you'll find out if the reinstall works in this week's “What We're Playing” post, but for now, wish me luck. If this doesn't work, maybe I'll boot up Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, or I could just get really annoyed about not being able to get lost in something instead. Who can say?
