Day of the Devs Remains A Conference Season Highlight

Summer has always been the traditional conference season for video games, which isn't as strictly followed these days. Not that it ever needed to be, of course, though having everything relatively contained does keep things organised. Record numbers of games continues releasing each year, presenting new challenges for discoverability across all sections of the industry.

It's little surprise then that more presentations continue appearing throughout, and a few have aligned with tonight's The Game Awards. Wholesome Snack, Latin American Games Showcase, PC Gaming Show, and the Women Led Games Showcase are a couple of examples, but its the long running Days of the Devs that's always been a personal highlight.

Following this year's in-person event at GDC and a June presentation, Day of the Devs returned last night with a new showcase. What followed was a well curated set of indies with some strong variety and I've added a few to my wishlists already. CorgiSpace is a new 8-bit collection from Adam Saltsman and Finji, Mirria looks like an intriguing puzzler, while Virtue and a Sledgehammer has you tearing down your hometown with... well, you can probably guess.

Some strong announcements with those alone, though Day of the Devs delivered a few updates on previously announced games. Big Hops, Beastro and Demon Tides (among others) secured release dates, and I love the idea behind Into the Fire of creating an extraction survival game set across a volcanic island about to erupt. As someone who's grown increasingly cynical about TGAs, it's a good reminder of what I love about gaming.
