Genshin Impact's Latest Update Is A Blast

Jason likes playing games sometimes. Who knew?

Genshin Impact's Latest Update Is A Blast

I've been playing Genshin Impact for a few years now. I actually jumped in at launch, enjoyed it, and dropped it anyway because, I dunno man. However, since returning just before the 3.0 patch over three years ago, I've been returning daily. I don't actually think I've missed a day, even if it's just to hop in and get through my daily quests. That's easier than ever now, too, which is wonderful.

3.0 was when the story really started picking up as well. We're talking being locked into dreams, splitting the soul of people into two, big old space whales, meeting death, and more. It's good stuff, and I'm here for it. Alongside that though, and the most important thing personally, is how much I've enjoyed the gameplay. I love the elemental interactions, and I'm actively sad more games don't do it. Genshin's characters can sometimes feel samey, yet it only takes one new one to change the teams you can use completely. Well, that is, until this patch.

Luna III, which is patch 6.2 but not really because of reasons, introduced a host of buffs for older characters. Several characters who've been there since the very beginning now have gameplay tweaks, bigger numbers, and even whole new play styles. Many of these buffs only work when you've got two of these characters together, and while I know some players don't love that restriction, I play Magic: The Gathering and D&D. For me, restriction breeds creativity, and that's why this patch is hitting just right.

It's given some clunkier characters a necessary refresh, and opened up a huge number of new team options as well. It makes the game's harder content more flexible, which is excellent, and it also means I can run around doing story quests with characters that I've not used in ages. This has me feeling very hopeful about getting more buffs as the game goes on, and while I'm not expecting to see them all that often, each batch is sure to give me a big old dump of dopamine.

That's it, there's no great critique here. I just like it when I get to use more characters again. Uh, bye. Have a Christmas if we don't talk again before that. Have a nap. Eat some chocolate. Do some push-ups. All that good stuff.
