About Us

Rewinder is a UK-based independent publication focused on delivering video game related journalism.
Founded in May 2025 by Editor-in-Chief Henry Stockdale, we're aiming to deliver video game news and expert critiques across all major traditional gaming platforms and genres. While this focus will naturally extend to AAA releases at times, we're looking to find a middle ground that highlight smaller titles too. This may eventually extend to wider entertainment and culture coverage, too.
Our goal is to provide timely, verified, knowledgeable coverage across news, reviews, features, and more. We're a team of three established journalists who've been in this space for years and have a wealth of experience. Henry's also Senior Editor at UploadVR with freelance bylines at Eurogamer, IGN, PC Gamer and more. Managing Editor Scott McCrae has freelance bylines with TechRadar, Daily Mirror, and GamesRadar+, while Deputy Editor Lex Luddy is EIC at startmenu.
We began this website to cover the games and pressing issues we care about with complete editorial freedom. Between widespread media layoffs these last few years, shrinking freelance budgets, industry consolidation, and increased competition, we've chosen our own way forward with a new outlet.
For transparency, Henry is currently running Rewinder as a sole trader as we get off the ground. Any profits from our initial crowdfunding efforts will be paid to Lex, Scott and any potential future freelancers that end up writing for us. Our eventual hope is to turn this into a worker-owned outlet with employee ownership, but we need to walk before we can run.
For general inquiries or news about upcoming games, please email our general inbox, news@rewinder.co.uk. You can also use our contact form, or reach out to the team with the info below.

Looking for more information about Rewinder? We've prepared the following FAQ to help you with any queries.
General Information
What social platforms do you post on?
- We use Bluesky, Threads, Facebook, Mastodon, YouTube, and also have a public profile on LinkedIn. Though we've also established Instagram, Twitch, and TikTok channels, these are placeholders as we currently do not have the capacity for extended video coverage beyond our podcast. We do not use Twitter - we've only created an account so we can link it here to verify that it's us.
Why do most of your social platforms say 'Rewinder Media' instead of 'Rewinder'?
- Usually because the name Rewinder was already taken.
Do you have a podcast or newsletter?
- Yes! We run a newsletter that you can sign up for by becoming a free member, and we have a podcast which you can find here.
Do you have a Discord server?
- We do, which is accessible to anyone who subscribes to our Patreon (live next week) or donates via direct membership.
Are you on Metacritic, OpenCritic, CriticDB or other review aggregation platforms?
- Review aggregation platforms are something we hope to join in the future but as a new outlet, not yet.
Funding
You ask for donations across both Patreon (live next week) and direct membership, but how is that money spent?
- Our business expenses are split several ways. This money will cover monthly costs for our Ghost CMS and Buffer plans, games if required for coverage, and other regular expenses like professional emails and domain hosting. We're all working unpaid initially, so we hope donations can eventually contribute towards paying both us and, eventually, freelance coverage.
Do you plan to put any content behind a paywall for direct members?
- No. Your financial support helps us ensure that operations continue running smoothly, and we don't plan to paywall any content even if we start offering additional perks. Our podcast will be a timed exclusive for two days for subscribers before being made widely available.
Why do you not use ads?
- We'll never say never, though we'd prefer to resist that step if we can. Ads are commonplace for funding websites with free article access, and we've seen increasing fatigue from readers with this model. So, we're looking to find new ways of achieving our goals without this. Our work isn't produced for free, so we're looking for direct crowdfunding support instead.
Will the paid tiers introduce any additional benefits in the future?
- This is something we will consider further down the line, though we don't currently have any plans for this. Presently, we're focused on getting Rewinder established.
Do you accept sponsored posts?
- We do not accept any requests for sponsored posts.
Editorial Content
I work for a developer/publisher/PR agency/etc, and I'm looking to share news about our game. How do I get in touch?
- Please email our general inbox, news@rewinder.co.uk. You can also directly contact our Editor-in-Chief, Henry Stockdale (henry@rewinder.co.uk), our Managing Editor, Scott McCrae (scott@rewinder.co.uk), or our Deputy Editor Lex Luddy (lexi@rewinder.co.uk). We also have a contact form you can use.
Are you open to publishing guides for different video games?
- We may publish the odd list article, but in-depth guides for specific games aren't currently a major focus.
Are you open to freelance pitches?
- We can't currently afford to pay an acceptable rate that we'd be comfortable offering freelance journalists, so not yet. We're looking to change that in the future, and we'll create a dedicated 'how to pitch us' page when that happens. If you'd like to get in touch anyway, please contact Henry, Scott, or Lex. We can't answer every email, but we'll do our best to reply.
Do you accept guest posts from games industry professionals?
- We're open to considering it, providing it's not simply self-promotion.
What is your scoring system for game reviews?
- We use a 10 point scoring system in our reviews from 1-10. You can find our review scoring policy for more details, and you can also check out our previously published reviews here.
Do you cover VR games or XR technology?
- No. Speaking personally, I adore VR gaming, but that decision was made to avoid any conflict with my work at UploadVR. If you're a developer/publisher working on any VR games, please contact hstockdale@uploadvr.com and tips@uploadvr.com instead.
Do you cover Web3, NFTs, or crypto-focused games?
- No.
Do you use generative AI in any capacity for producing articles?
- Absolutely not. We may critically discuss products or games that use Generative AI in our articles - this certainly is not our main editorial focus - but we will never use the technology itself in creating our coverage. Please refer to our Editorial Policy to learn more.
I've found another outlet/YouTube channel/etc that's plagiarized your articles, where can I report this?
- Please email legal@rewinder.co.uk with the full details, we greatly appreciate any help with this.
Miscellaneous
Why can't I directly delete my user account?
- This is an unfortunate limitation of our chosen CMS, Ghost, which doesn't support this and that's not something we can fix through hiring a web developer. If you'd like to delete your account, please email news@rewinder.co.uk with your deletion request and we'll action this as quickly as possible.
I've subscribed to a membership tier through the website, how do I get access to the Discord server or podcast early?
- Please email news@rewinder.co.uk with your details. Once we've verified you are a paying member, we can look to gift you the equivalent membership tier through Patreon (live next week).
How does Henry juggle working as an editor for both UploadVR and Rewinder?
- With great difficulty; we don't know where he finds the time or energy.
If anything you're looking to discuss isn't covered here, please contact news@rewinder.co.uk for more information.
