Editorial Policy and Code Of Ethics

Whether it's news stories, reviews, or something else, Rewinder will always aim for accurate, objective reporting filled with integrity. We are ultimately advocating for what's best for consumers, not corporations, and everything we do is guided by these principles. With that in mind, we believe transparency is the way forward and here's what you need to know.

Editorial Policy

Rewinder's editorial content team is completely independent of any external influence. We are not beholden to any financial backers with vested interests and while our team may have particular interests regarding certain games or genres, our content strategy will never be driven in such a manner.

Conflicts of interest: Should a conflict of interest arise that creates a dilemma between the subject of an article and a writer's personal and business relationships, this will be disclosed. We will make every effort to ensure that the writer isn't involved in the publication of such articles, whether that's directly writing the piece or through editorial checks. Unless an article relates to wider news across the website, like a 'site update', the author will always be identified clearly.
Embargoes and NDAs: Gaining access to information for future coverage often requires signing a non-disclosure agreement. Rewinder will not sign any agreements that potentially compromise our ability to report on timely subjects, so we review each NDA on a case by case basis. We will regularly agree to embargoes that don't require an NDA before news become public, though we will not agree this for any products already publicly available. An exception to this is any planned upcoming changes for a previously released product, like an unannounced update to a game.
Travel expenses and gift policy: Our goal is to provide a clear, unfiltered voice that reports on wider events and subjects of interest across the video game industry. Occasionally, this may involve accepting travel, accommodation, and meals to facilitate our coverage, though only if we deem these necessary and worthwhile to our audience. We will look to self-fund such expenses ourselves where feasible. We do not accept large-value gifts sent intending to influence our coverage, though we may donate received items via audience giveaways or to charity. Any low-value items sent to us will be assessed on a case by case basis.
Corrections: We continually strive for accurate reporting before publishing articles, but we accept that mistakes can happen. If such an error does happen, we'll aim to resolve any issues as soon as possible. We will also add a correction notice that clearly states what meaningful changes were made to an article, and on what date the change was made. Minor corrections like fixing misspellings or grammatical errors are exempt from such disclosures. Should further information become apparent at a later date, we may update these stories with the new information instead of writing brand-new articles.
Sourcing: Our goal is to use our own original sources and deliver original reporting wherever possible. If our sources require anonymity, we will ensure their information is verified from multiple sources before publishing information. We do not wish to amplify baseless rumours, though we may speculate in our articles based on known information. If information comes from a secondary source like another outlet, they will be credited and linked in the article. We will not pay sources for information access.
Contacting sources: It's common practice that we will reach out to relevant parties before publishing a potential article, aiming to give them a reasonable response time before publication. These emails will always come from a “@rewinder.co.uk” email. You can also use our contact form or email news@rewinder.co.uk if you wish to share what a potential story.
Generative AI: Rewinder will never use generative AI in the creation of articles. We may touch upon the subject of Gen AI in some stories, but we assure you this will never be used in any capacity to create coverage. Should we discover any writers have used such programs without prior disclosure, that article will be removed.
Review policies: Our reviews come from independent writers without any external influences affecting our critiques. We will work with publishers where possible for review access, and a review score will not be disclosed to these publishers before publication. Any major changes made to reviews post-publication will be noted clearly in a correction notice. Our full review scoring policy can be found here.
Affiliate links - Presently, we do not have any affiliate agreements with any major retailers to earn a commission. This may change in the future and if it does, our decision to post any articles will not be influenced by such programs or paid promotions. A disclaimer will also be applied in any relevant articles.
